The Highs and Lows of 2024

It is a toss-up of what was the lowest point in this past year. A 3-month recovery from surgery this summer after being ill in the spring is not the fun memory but having to replace the septic system for the bungalow and apartment was worse!

Having to say good-bye to long term family members is hard but it is wonderful to know Buster, Forbes and Holly were loved to the end of their 17 years of life! The Beagle Bungalow also provided loving care to Ash and Derby until they lost their battle with cancer.

The first high is to realization of how many supporters of The Beagle Bungalow there are. It was wonderful to see how many people donated to help pay for the new septic system. We thank you for the help. Every dollar is needed and goes to caring for the hounds here.

The second high for the year was the positive response of the feral hounds to having so many caregivers here daily. They learned that many people are kind and loving and can dish up a food bowl as well as I can! Frankie is the best example. She has been here for over 2 years now and has never allowed anyone other than Gary or me to touch her. She now comes up to several people and adds a new person to her approved list almost weekly! Even volunteers that have been coming here as long as she has been here are suddenly on her list of people who can pet her and scratch her butt!! It is amazing to watch and continues to surprise the volunteers who were used to her barking to have her come up and touch their hands to say Hey. Silver linings are real!! A huge thank you goes to all the people who came to clean, do yard pick-up and feed the dogs!

A third high is taking on the role of a fat farm! Tortilla and Lucky came in at 50+ pounds and lost close to 20 pounds each! Booker in a current resident who on his way to losing a needed 25 pounds!
