Over the past few months, we have taken in beagles whose owners have died and there was no plan on who would care for their beloved pet. It is easy to think your family will be able to take them in, but often the families already have more than they can handle with their own kids and pets!
We recently were called in to help find a place for 8 dogs who were left behind with only a neighbor coming by to feed them. Their owner was placed in a facility for dementia and had no idea of where they all had come from! Please take time this busy holiday season to decide on a plan to ensure that your beagle makes it into a great home after you are gone. Talk with your family and friends then make a note in your will that stipulates what you want done. You can even set aside a small stipend to help care for your pet, if you are financially able.
